Pathways to Success Program

Pathways to Success is an Entrepreneurial Training Program designed for 9th-12th grade high school students.  It is open to male and female students of color.  Students and parents are invited to attend an Orientation Presentation on January 14th @ 10:00am at West L.A. College to learn of the program expectations, requirements and expected outcomes.

Young Black Scholars
Fostering development that leads to college admissions and success throughout life. Young Black Scholars (YBS) helps increase the number of African American and other minority high school students who are academically and competitively prepared for college and university admissions.

Young Black Scholars Club

To increase the number of students who can participate in the YBS Program, we've developed a Young Black Scholars Club for Middle Schools and High Schools.  The clubs are a way to organize students on campus around a college going culture and to enhance the availability of academic enrichment activities that increase their likelihood of attending college.

Collegiate 100

Membership into the Collegiate 100 (C100) is drawn primarily from African–American male and female college students. Members of the Collegiate 100 will assist the local (Sponsoring) 100 Black Men Chapter with its programmatic initiatives that support the development of social, emotional, educational, and physical needs of youth who have few or no positive role models in the communities in which they live.  The C100 also serves as a support network for the college students to assist in keeping in school and focused on graduating.

Technology Summit

The goal of the four-week summit is to give students a glimpse into the field of Technology, while providing tools that will improve their everyday approach to how they learn.  The four session YBS Technology Summit will provide students the opportunity to learn about various aspects of technology, ranging from systems analysis to database design.  Sessions will be structured to provide insight into defined technical areas, while also providing a platform for students to ask questions and interact with their peers on hands on projects.

Health and Wellness
We design health and wellness programs that raise the consciousness of our Young Black Scholars and mentees on environmental issues as well as health issues; implementation of health education workshops and screenings, and programs regarding violence prevention and conflict resolution. The 100 teams up with other non-profit organizations to promote preventative health strategies, and provide education on prevalent diseases.

Economic Empowerment
We have established programs that teach the Young Black Scholars and our See Your Future Mentoring participants how to enhance their financial literacy skills and to develop an entrepreneurial or business plan.  We teach skills for use in managing daily household and personal expenses through use of a variety of methods to educate both students and parents in this very important area of life.

Leadership
Some students are natural born leaders, but the majority must be taught leadership skills.  Teaching students to see things from another student’s point of view. developing good communication and listening skills, and building their self confidence and giving them opportunities to lead in small group settings.
